Open source software is gaining popularity in companies but also in the public sector. According to recent comment about information society Finnish government is willing to promote the use of open source software in organizations of public administration.
Definition of policy of the government is a good continuum for JHS-recommendation published in last month, which guides to the use of open standards and interfaces and acquiring software with open source license, comments
Matti Saastamoinen from COSS. See press release.
Finland is not alone with the matter because similar news have been heard from another countries. For example in England the government has notified that in the future open source software is evaluated on the same basis than closed software on public acquisitions.
